World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will be able to gain 3percent of its previous damage every time it's upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item level rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. These can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to blue level before the component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a particular type of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it's used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defence characteristics of a weapon, or armor. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab in the crafting table. Each completed Upgrade Recipe yields a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item. Once enough are earned, the upgrade can be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player upgrades an item it is replaced by a new item of the same type. The same armor can be transformed into an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will have its own set bonus. This could be a disadvantage since the item may become more expensive even if you don't need it.

Upgrades to items can be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens to be able to do this. The item will be replaced by a brand new one that has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses.
